This poster was printed in 1922. So, I’m fairly certain it was printed from a stone litho, making it quite rare. 32” x 47” in size, this poster features Simone Frévalles, a famous French singer, chanteuse, and actress of the time, well-known for her "diva-ish" personality. She’s dressed here in an orange flapper outfit. Mounted on linen, the colors are fresh and vibrant. There don't appear to be any visible flaws or fading, certainly B+/A- in quality, maybe higher.
The artist who created this poster is of some importance.
Marcel Vértes was a much-celebrated French costume designer and illustrator. He won two Academy Awards (Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design) for his work on the 1952 film “Moulin Rouge,” directed by John Huston, starring Jose Ferrér as Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. (An interesting side note: As a student, Vertés earned money by making forgeries of Toulouse-Lautrec’s works. He was so skilled at this that Huston used him in closeups in the movie; it's his hand doing the drawings for Ferrér's Lautrec in closeups). He is also responsible for the murals at the Café Carlyle in the Carlyle Hotel in New York. Vértes created very few posters. So, this is a rare example of his skill.
Other versions of this poster often sell for much more than what I am asking.
