• This handsome four-panel sheet includes a nautical map of Mobile Bay, Ship Island,the Chandeleurs, and the mouth of the Mississippi River.
• There's a view of Fort Massachusetts, named after the Union Ship which retook in the island in the fall of 1861,and an illustration titled "Big Gun Commanding Channel."
• The lower view shows a busy waterway, with steamboats and sailing ships. The lighthouse and fort on ShipIsland are visible in the distance.
• This engraving was published in Harper's Pictorial Historyof the Civil War,copyrighted 1866 by Harper and Brothers, copyrighted 1894 by AlfredH. Guernsey and Henry M. Alden, and copyrighted 1894 by McDonnell Bros.
