Original WWI / WW1 French Army M1915 Adrian Helmet With Chinstrap & Liner
A classic example of the WWI French Adrian helmet, a truly iconic symbol of the Great War, with liner and chinstrap in place. Millions of these were made during the war and were widely adopted by not only France, but also various different countries both during and after WWI. Judging by the rivet placement on the helmet, this was made by the Duperyon firm. It has a Type 2 leather liner, which was used from around 1916-1918. Thus, this was probably a mid-war production helmet. On the front is a well-secured flaming bomb helmet badge representing the French infantry.
This helmet is well and truly in untouched shape, with many spots of rust or paint wear all throughout the exterior of dark blue paint, which undoubtedly came from much use in the trenches, exposed to constant rain, mud, and debris. The liner, similarly, is very weathered, but is by no means falling apart. The steel inserts around the liner seem to be absent, though the liner is still snugly inside the helmet and will stay in. The chinstrap is in fragile condition, but is in one piece and present. WWI Adrians in this shape are generally missing either the chinstrap or the liner or both, but this one practically has it all. For those searching for an authentic, seasoned helmet representing the average French soldier in the trenches, they don’t come much better than this. A true combat relic deserving of a centerpiece spot in a Great War display.
