Rare Toy Story 3 Artwork
saleDescription

Genuinesigned original animation character design drawing and visual development artwork from this classic animated Film, complete with Certificate of Authenticity. This animation drawing was actually used in the production of this animated feature, and is one of a kind.Drawing is done on archival 50lb tracing paper, often using prismacolor drawing pencils for most of the design work, andit was customary for the artist to work on larger sheets of tracing paper, edit back through, select, then often cut out the individual images that were to be shown, in order to scan and tag them separately. The advantage to this approach was the artist found that they could remain less attached and feel free to restart a drawing if it wasn’t working out, could start over, change to another character, rough out ideas for other projects etc- all on the same page, without having to worry so much about continuity. Drawing is signed and dated by the artist Buck Lewis (H B Lewis). Artworkis infine condition with usual wear and creases expected from a production used drawing. Overall size approximately 61 cm x 47cm. Drawings may be rendered in pencil, pen, ink, coloured pencils, crayon, have areas cut, re-stuck, parts Xeroxedon, other drawings applied etc., folded, creasing, creases and handling wear as part of the animation process and will display any of these in the picture. This original production artwork comes complete with our galleryissued Certificate of Authenticity. Animation ArtDefinitions

Animation Cel - A cel (short for celluloid) is a blank clearplastic sheet used by the studio artist to paint an animated characteror object based on the animator\'s original pencil drawing. The celsare then placed over a background and photographed in sequence to producean illusion of life in the completed film or cartoon short. Every celis different but this does not mean that every cel is unique. Oftenmultiple copies of a cel were created by the Inkers as colour modelsin order to advance their technique and skills.12 Field Cel - This refers to the size of the areaon the artwork which falls within the sight of the camera. Measuringapproximately 10.5\" x 12.5\" this is the standard size forcels, backgrounds and drawings.

16Field Cel - This refers to the size of the area on the artworkwhich falls within the sight of the camera. Measuring approximately12.5\" x 16.5\" this is the standard size for cels, backgroundsand drawings.Production Cel - Any cel created for the productionof an animated film, commercial or cartoon short. This does not necessarilymean that the piece appears in the film. Model cels and preliminaryart are all production artwork.Limited Edition Cel - A non production hand paintedcel created for sale to the collectors market. It is produced in fixedlimited quantities and is easily identified by a fraction (150/500)in the lower right hand corner. They were not used in films or cartoonshorts, and the original intent was to recreate the original productioncels. Nowadays many studios release new images not based on productionartwork.

Sericel(Serigraph) - A non production cel created by means of a printingprocess similar to silk screening. No work is done by hand, thereforeno painting or inking is involved. They are often produced in limitedquantities of 300 - 5000, and they are marketed as a low cost alternativeto production and limited edition cels.

AnimationDrawing - A drawing on paper in pencil, sometimes colouredwhich is created by a studio artist of an animated character or objectfor which the cels are later created.

ProductionBackground - A background created for use in a production ofan animated film. It must be noted that a production background maynot necessarily originate from the same production that the cel is from.Matching Master Background / Key master Setup - Thisis often referred to as a key master background setup, but is simplya cel or cels with the background from the same scene that were originallyphotographed. When framed these will look exactly as they do in theoriginal film or cartoon short.
Lithograph - These images (prints) are created usinga print process. They are produced in limited quantities, numbered andsigned or are mass produced. Non limited pieces become discontinuedand are harder to locate, therefore increasing in value.Giclee - The French term \"Giclée\",literally meaning \"spray of ink,\" is used to describe theseprints. Four precision nozzles spray up to a million microscopic dropletsper second on to fine art paper. Then, each piece of paper is individuallyhand-mounted. Displaying a full colour spectrum, the prints are lushand velvety, capturing the subtle nuances of the original artwork.

Frequently AskedQuestions

What is Animation Art? - Animation Art is more than just thecels and backgrounds seen by a camera in the finished version of ananimated film, cartoon, short or commercial. It also includes inspirationalsketches and paintings, story ideas, character models, and drawingsused in the making of the animated film, as well as post productionmodels and publicity work, and all other works prepared after its completion. Why is Animation Art important? - Animation Art hasbecome a universal art form that has entertained, informed, and instructedgenerations around the world for almost 100 years. Animation speaksto everyone in a universal language, regardless of age, creed, or nationality.

Whatmakes Animation Art valuable? - Age and rarity are two importantfactors. What character(s) are in the Artwork, and what expressionsthey are showing. Figures in a full pose position are normally moresought after than a head shot or half body pose. Memorable scenes fromclassic films or cartoons create a high value. Villains and Princessesare also valuable. Signatures of artists connected with a specific productioncan often increase the value. Walt Disney\'s signature on the mount/matwill also increase the value, as he never signed the artwork itself.

ShouldI invest in Animation Art? - Collectors have purchased AnimationArt for as little as one pound and sold it for hundred\'s or thousandsof pounds. You can view past sales at Christie\'s to see the valueof vintage Disney and Warner pieces. The value of Animation Art is increasingmore rapidly than any other Art form on the collectable market. Selectand purchase Animation Art because it gives you pleasure. Enjoy it tothe full, and you will receive the greatest return on your investment, the joy of owning a moment in film making history that will never berepeated again.

Whatis Premier Animation? - Premier Animation is an online galleryoffering some of the finest vintage and contemporary Animation Art onthe net. We are currently a mail order only and do not have a brickand mortar gallery. Are limited edition cels hand painted? - Yes limited editioncels are hand painted reproductions of famous scenes, or are sometimesnewly created ones that often depict sports scenes, or mix characterstogether that ordinarily would not appear together. Some collectorsalso quite like the beautiful colour reproduction backgrounds that accompanythe pieces as well. How many cels are used in a typical cartoon? - A filmruns at 24 frames per second. That number never changes. Therefore themost any cartoon can be animated to is 24 fps. Budget films usuallyrun at 12 cels per second, each cel being shot twice. However, lowerbudget cartoons can, and usually do, use the same cel three or moretimes. The more a cel is used, the \"jerkier\" the final cartoonwill look. For a high budget cartoon, that runs for 8 minutes, thereare roughly 11,520 hand painted cels used...which is a lot of hard skilledwork (just think how many cels are used in a full length feature film). There is a whole new question that arises from this, and that is howmany collectable cels are available from an 8 minute cartoon? Alternatively,if an 8 minute cartoon is animated at 24 fps, are there 11,520 collectablecels for sale? The answer is simply no. Firstly, you must consider thatabout half of the cels could never be sold, due to the main character\'seyes being closed, they are passing behind another object, their backis showing, or it is just an awkward non attractive pose. Therefore, the majority of the cels have gone, and the remainder are left to beeither destroyed, damaged through bad storage or sold to the collectorsmarket. By this time there are only a small percentage of the cels availableto purchase.
