Textile designer Ruth Reeves studies in america and France under Fernand Leger and other contemporary French artists...however Reeve\'s designs expressed a distinctly American sensibility focused on themes reflecting the American experience...and while classified as Art Deco designer of her time...her designs were also reminiscent of her counterparts like Joan Miro and Picasso...she embraced the bold use of color and abstractness and by virtue of that created a niche for herself in the fame of American artists and designers of the early mid century. She was born in in the Redlands of California...she died in 1966.
This offering is for an original unwashed unused salesman sample of her pattern \"Abstract Fleurs\" and it was produced between 1948 and 1952. In fact a larger piece of yardage recently sold for $500. A heavy cotton with a texture of linen and cotton...all edges are serged as customary with salesman samples...I believe this is the only salesman sample left on earth. Measures 27 inches wide x 27 inches long. Flawless.
