A pattern featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art website, for sale is a set of 4 glossy-finish square-shaped Taylor Smith Taylor plates designed by Walter Dorwin Teague. Mid-Century (1951?) Conversation plates in the Thistle Pattern 9-50.
Shiny golden and black thistle design in the middle, and a shiny golden rim around the outside. Rounded square corners. Stamped on the backsides.
Good vintage condition overall, with the most mentionable wear highlighted and described below:
Plate 1 has a chip on the underside rim. (See photo 3’s arrow and the side view at the top of photo 6.) It measures approximately 3/8 of an inch at its longest.
Plate 2 has a slightly smaller chip on the underside rim. (See photo 8’s arrow and the side view at the top of photo 6.) It is approximately 2/8 inches at its longest.
Minor wear as expected on vintage serveware, including silverware scratches that are the same color as the plate on the ivory parts. (See photo 6 for a close-up example.) Some minimal wear to the gold rim and thistles as well.
