Singe - Cameroon African Monkey Motherhood Wood Carving 11.8 Inches Tall:
$190.00

His posture is always the same: he stands in a position of receiving offerings. His legs are bent, and in his hands are objects. Located in the border area between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu are part of the larger Fang group.
Like the Fang of southern Cameroon, who are famous for their large white masks, the Bulu also practiced the Ngil ritual to combat witchcraft and poisoning.
Ngi is the gorilla, a formidable animal with which the initiate identifies after being accepted into the secret society.
Their monkey statues are notable for the invention of round and simple shapes, and for a great accuracy in observing the animal's posture. The Bulu admit that there is a part of their ancestors in the symbolism of the gorilla.
