Super Rare Fisher Pancake Third Rail Trolley Glass Insulator For Sale

Here\'s a rare insulator and a rare opportunity for the serious collector. This was made for the Detroit Electrical Works to insulate a third rail on the San Jose Fisher Electric Line in the late 1880s. The design of this insulator proved to be a failure due to breakage and very few survived in decent specimen or better condition. This example has a portion missing from both ends, but the main body is present with almost all of the embossing. The full embossing on these reads: Fisher Electric Railway System-Built By Detroit Electrical Works. The damage only affects the \"F\" in Fisher and the later portion of \"SYSTEM\". The reverse side is concave, exhibiting the squared form for placement on the rail. A very historical insulator that would sell for $3,000-4,000 in better condition.
