GRAIL! EXTREMELY RARE! Up for sale is one of two MAISON DESNY boudoir/ petite table lamps in silver metal with beautifully faceted cut glass rising from the base.
VINTAGE, circa 1928-1930. Used, condition commensurate with age and use. See pics as they are the most vital element of the description.
Lamp is marked DESNY MADE IN FRANCE to its underside.
In estate fresh condition, with possibly the original plug and cord. They have not been tested, and we recommend rewiring or testing by a professional prior to use. If buying for use in USA, at the very least, the lamp will require at minimum, a special Europe-To-North America plug-in adapter.
The $1290 price takes into account that it requires rewiring and that no lampshade is provided.
MAISON DESNY’s iconic designs are legendary. The two designers were only partners in the firm for under a decade and their clientele was very small and exclusive — consisting of the Paris design and fashion elite (Jean Michel Frank, Rob Mallet Stevens) and their patrons seeking “luxe avant-garde modernism.”) So of course it’s only fitting that the world’s most famed collection of Desny pieces was that of Karl Lagerfeld, where a dozen were saleed off in one famous sale.
Karl Springer’s 1970’s-1980’s lighting owes much to their bod and spare geometry creations and Paul Evans Cityscape chrome pieces have a touch of DESNY as well.
In later years, there were notable reissues (Demeter’s 1980s glass pane lamp is easily found online) and of course 1st Dibs has a few originals at substantially higher prices.
Note: The other lamp shown in the last photo is complementary to this one, and makes a lovely counterpoint to it. As you can see, the other lamp is slightly smaller, and the glass pieces are different in shape, size and faceting.
