VINTAGE McINTOSH MAGIC LANTERN STEREOPTICON PROJECTOR :
$750.00

WOW!!! This projector screams AWESOME!!I would like to start off by saying that I don\'t know a lot about this item, but I have done some research on it. This stereopticon was made by the McIntosh Co. of Chicago. Im not sure of the year of manufacture, but I would guess late 1800s to early 1900s. Here is what Wikipedia says about stereopticons:

\"A stereopticon is a slide projector or \"magic lantern\", which has two lenses, usually one above the other. These devices date back to the mid 19th century,[1] and were a popular form of entertainment and education before the advent of moving pictures. Americans William and Frederick Langenheim introduced stereopticon slide technology—slide shows of projected photographs on glass—in 1850. For a fee of ten cents, people could view realistic photographs with nature, history, and science themes. At first, the shows used random images, but over time, lanternists began to place the slides in logical order, creating a narrative. This \"visual storytelling\" directly preceded the development of the first moving pictures.[2] The term stereopticon has been widely misused to name a stereoscope. A stereopticon will not project or display stereoscopic/three-dimensional images. The two lenses are used to dissolve between images when projected. All stereopticons can be classified as magic lanterns, but not all magic lanterns are stereopticons.

I believe that this use to be lit by carbon arc, but at some point it was updated to electricity (I believe this was done quite a long time ago based on the old style wiring). Im not sure if there are any parts missing, but it does look complete to me. All of the lenses appear to be in great shape, no visible cracks. The power cord is in rough shape, so I have not tested this to see if it lights up or not. Other than some light dusting, it is in \"as found\" condition. Feel free to ask questions before offerding.

Item sold as-is, no returns. I will ship to the continental US only. I offer shipping discounts on multiple items. Please check out my other listings for more vintage items.
