Vintage 16mm film Military WWll WW2 Navy NOT for PUBLIC SHOWING USN Hornet:
$1500.00

This is a very rare bit of film which has clips of Merchant Marines, Japan War Movies, medical experiments in desert and cold weather, and Navy film of USS Hornet 1st ship battle scenes and survivors. This clip says Not for Public Showing. This video contains sound. The back story on this film:I bought this film in the winter of 2018 while answering a craigslist ad in Newport, VT. The guy was selling Army helmets and handed me the items when I arrived, when I asked if he other items for sale he took me down to the basement. Here the floor was covered with boxes of military stuff. It looked like he just bought out a storage unit. Boxes of electronics radio tubes and military electronics were everywhere. I looked around and found this milk crate full of these 16mm film canisters, I made him an offer and he agreed. Next week a 16mm projector comes up for sale and I bought that and started viewing these reels. Being a USMC vet and being on a West Pac and Med float I knew these were films they would show at night to let the guys know what was happening back in the states. There were various subjects, Olympics, early heavyweight wrestling, interesting film on the Army Airforce glider program (this film was crazy interesting and educational) I never heard of the gliders. Finally watched this film on the Hornet and that was it., done. Have not watched the others. I figure the original owner was a Navy electronics specialist who was in charge of fixing the high tech instruments plus the projector and film. Last week I had breakfast with a 90 year old ex Navy intelligence officer and he said to put these on because a historian might be interested. Willing to deal for whole box of film.
