This Smith Corona Sterling has been cleaned, serviced, and provided a new ribbon for immediate use upon arrival.
It is a great working machine, with supple rubber feet for good grip, an ergonomic keyboard, bichrome ribbon settings, 5 manually-set tab stops, touch control, folding paper support, single and double spacing, and a platen ratchet disengagement lever. The margins, bells, keys, and carriage all work with no discernable issue, and the machine is capable of being used for long sessions of typing. It does not have a carrying case, however I'm familiar with packaging and shipping typewriters.
The typing action is buttery smooth, with a less snappy--and more cushioned--feel than many of the later Smith Corona portables. When it was manufactured, it was one of their higher-end portable typewriters.
When using the typewriter--since the platen is original--a backing sheet of paper is advised to have a nice, crisp imprint on the document. Storage should involve covering the machine to prevent dust buildup.
