VINTAGE PAIR OF GERMAN PORCELAIN FIGURINES

This listing features a companion pair of Rococo-style porcelain sweetmeat dishes, presented by exquisitely decorated man and lady figurines. They are unmarked to my eye but the brushwork, careful decoration, and facial expressions are clearly German. Research found few of these pairs are still together or in this condition, although there is a very good repair to the lady’s neck. It's easily missed unless you're close up and looking for it, so I have priced this listing with that in mind.

They measure approximately 9 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 7 inches deep, including their pedestals.

Between the pair, there are a few tiny roses with tiny chipped petals which are acceptable, given they are very minor and not distracting. 2 dark dots in the gentleman’s basket might be removable but they look like underglaze paint splatter (see detailed photos). They would benefit from a gentle cleaning after being packed in storage for decades.

These porcelains depict a gentleman and lady, in 18th-century attire, presenting baskets to the viewer. These baskets are hand-painted with butterflies, applied roses, leaves and curling vine handles. The construction of both figurines is complex and skillfully accomplished, with the modeling of each hand particularly beautiful.
