WWI Photo Album Escadrille 93 Pilot Bullard Monkey Ace Fonck WW1 French Aviation For Sale

Fantastic group of three original photo albums that once belonged to French pilot Pierre Olphe-Gaillard, depicting his career from student at St. Cyr through his time in WWI flying with Escadrille 93.
Approximately 320 photographs and 3 drawings contained in three albums. Two albums are Kodak Simplex with photos pasted in, and the third album is a hardcover with the photos loosely inserted into slots.
Some subjects include:
- School prior to WWI, including shots of horse jumping, some signed.- Cabinet card, loose from albums, signed by Olphe-Gaillard and classmates.- Photos with the 17th Regiment Dragons.
- Many individual and group photos of Escadrille 93, including aces Gustave Daladier and Pierre Ducornet.- 2 photos with ace Rene Fonck- 4 photos with Jimmy the monkey, mascot of Escadrille 93 who once belonged to Eugene Bullard. Jimmy stayed on with 93 after Bullard\'s departure.- Autographed photo of Georges Guierre, who I believe was the first air pilot in history to take off from the platform of a ship. Size of the photos range from 7\" x 9\" (printed quite large for the period) to 1.5\" x 2.5\". The majority fall somewhere between and you can get a good idea of sizes from the photos shown in the listing.
Album sizes are 9.5\" x 12.5\" (2 Kodaks) and 8.5\" x 11.5\" (hardcover).
Photos and albums are in good antique condition. The Kodak album covers are a bit worn and the spines and the binding ends of the inner pages have been professionally restored---just reinforced and given new punch holes. The hard cover album spine is a bit loose, but still holding together well.
