Historic & Important Antique OriginalWWI United States Army Air Service USAAS 72nd Aero Squadron Camouflage Painted with Air Service Roundel to the Crown, USA for United States Army on the Sides, and 72nd A.S. to the rear, the front view of the helmet is only camouflage (photo 2); This is an exceptional example of a Model 1917 \"Doughboy\" Brodie Helmet with Steel Heat Stamp \'ZB 77\' (Worcester Pressed Steel Company Lot 77). The 72nd Aero Squadron was attached to the 1st Air Depot A.E.F. Allied Expeditionary Forces -The squadron was formed in Texas in early 1918. After aperiod of training and organization, it departed from New York in the lateSummer of 1918, arriving in France on 4 September AEF. It stayed two weeks at theAir Service Replacement Concentration Barracks, St. Maixent France, then transitedthrough Delouze Aerodrome before reaching Colombey-les-Belles Airdrome where itworked for the 1st Air Depot as A.S. S.O.S. A.P.S. \"Advance Section, Service of Supply Air ParkSquadron\", It subsequently remained in France after the Armistice November 11, 1918 until June 1919, then arrivingback in New York and demobilized in July. This unit had a legendary service through its present designation as The72nd Test and Evaluation Squadron 53d Wing at Eglin Air Force Base Florida with the B-2 Program, the current unit traces its Lineage directly to this History.Fine Issued Condition as Photographed with light wear and damage to the chinstrap as shown - a Great Candidate for Display in a Library or War Room, Exceptional War Time Camouflage - Recent Estate Barn Find Acquisition from Rural Kansas & Presented as Acquired, Very Rare
