WWII British "Jane's Fighting Ships-1942" (Is. 1943) 1st American Ed. Macmillan:
$126.00

We are offering this great WWII era book: Jane's Fighting Ships - 1942. It was published by Macmillan in 1943 (New York). It features a dark blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine and blind stamped titles on the front (and rear) covers. It has an oblong format with 582 pages plus 64 pages of advertising. It has light bumps to the corners and edges and a little rubbing on the spine ends. There is a small inked owner's nameon the front endpaper otherwise I have found no marks, folds or rips in the text. Overall it is a great copy.
This volume features all the worlds fighting ships that were afloat at the beginning of 1942 (doesn't include the HMS hood or the German battleship Bismarck that both were sunk in 1941). There is also speculation and remarks on the ships sunk and damaged by Japan at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 6,1941. It was thought at the time that the battleship Arizona might be salvaged. In addition to many fascinating pages of British advertisers (including Harland and Wolff), all the fighting ships of the America, Britain, Japan and Germany are listed along with any other fighting ships anywhere in the world at the time. Included are the German battleships Scharnhorn and Gneisenau and the Japanese battleships Nagato and Mutu. American ships include the aircraft carriers Enterprise and Saratoga in addition to the heavy cruiser Indianapolis.
