WWII JAPANESE SAMURAI SWORD~ LATE WAR W/SIGNED TANG & WOOD TURN IN TAG ~ESTATE ITEM

Click to see full size image.To my buyers: For years I have done business on using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives.

This WWII Japanese Samurai Sword belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was part of his sword collection and was bought from a WWII US Veteran years ago. I took 30 photos so please look at the extras following the description.

I believe this particular sword was made during WWII. The blade measures 26.25 inches from the tip to the notch in the habaki and remains bright overall. It appears lightly sharpened mostly near the tsuba (see photos) Both sides of he tip are clean and without issue (see photos). The tang has one hole and is fairly long with a two character makers name to one side (see photos). A friend told me he thought the characters translated to sadaharu (see photos). The handle retains all its original wrap, two wartime menuki and is somewhat soiled from apparent use (see photos). The release button and the retention sping are missing from above the guard (see photos). The handle is solid/intact and has a small wooden peg to secure it in place (see photos).

The single suspension ring metal scabbard has all the fittings remaining in place and is clean/solid overall with some minor paint losses (see photos). There is a wooden tag attached to the suspension ring fitting that appears to be a Japanese turn in or surrender tag (see photos). There appears to have been another paper shipping tag attached there but it has torn away (see photos).

This WWII Japanese Samurai Sword shows average use/wear makes an excellent presentation andis guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Great opportunity to complete a display or add to an sword collection. Really an interesting piece overall that might research if you can decipher the Japanese characters on wooden surrender tag.
