WWII US AIR CORPS M3 Flak Helmet Named Bomber Pilot With Polaroid M-1944 Goggles For Sale

This is the rare m3 flak helmet, with the apparently very rare MSA liner (I’ve never seen that before). The helmet is 100% complete, with both pads in the ear flaps. The chinstrap does appear to be a little brittle (I’ve never unsnapped it, and suspect it would break if not done VERY carefully). Also, there is a small crack in the helmet shell at the very rear along the bottom edge, and some solid dents in the top, probably from actual use.

The Polaroid goggles had a broken strap, which I put back together with some olive green tape that I’ve got. They’re in a pretty similar condition to the helmet. Showing their age and telling their story, but still intact.

There are also two small books in this grouping. One is “I’ve Got Wings!” And the other is his filled out pilot log book. Both are named to John Collins of Norfolk VA, and appear to be from late 1944-45 when he was training to become an actual pilot. My guess is he started as some other position on a bomber, explaining the hard-used flak helmet, and then went on to become a pilot by the end of the war. The helmet also has the name John In the sweat band.

This is a real been-there-done-that helmet, and would be perfect for display with a well used flight jacket!
