Listed for sale is a truly stunning display which contains the autographs of [11] eleven German fighter aces of World War II who were also awarded The Knight's Cross. The Knight's Cross was awarded by the Third Reich during World War II for a wide range of reasons such as skilled leadership of troops to extreme gallantry. There was a total of 7,321 awards presented between its first recipient on September 30, 1939, until its last recipient on June 17, 1945. The autographs of the eleven recipients are signed on a bookplate which contains the image of the Iron Cross, and their combined aerial victories total is 1,478. The bookplate is signed by the following recipients, Erich Hartmann [1922 1993] who was the most successful fighter ace in the history of aerial combat and is credited with 352 aerial victories, Gunter Rall [1918 2009] credited with 275 aerial victories, Walter Schuck [1920 2015] credited with 206 aerial victories, Dietrich Hrabak [1914 1995] credited with 125 aerial victories, Adolf Gallard [1912 1996] credited with 104 aerial victories, Walter Krupinski [1920 2000] credited with 197 aerial victories, Heinz Lange [1917 2006] credited with 70 aerial victories, Hans-Ekkehard Bob [1917 2004] credited with 60 aerial victories, Hannes Trautloft [1912 1995] credited with 58 aerial victories, Hans-Joachims Jabs [1917 2003] credited with 50 aerial victories and Wolfgang Falck [1910 2007] who was one of the key organizers of the night fighter defenses and Luftwaffe ace credited with 8 aerial victories. The bookplate measures 5.50 x 8.50 inches, other than a trivial paperclip impression on the right edge it is in fine condition. The bookplate has been centered below a beautiful color image of a pair of German Messerschmitt 109's in flight. The photograph is a quality color print which measures 16.00 x 12.00 inches, and the colors are vivid, and the image is stunning. Mounted below and on the sides of the bookplate are a pair of Luftwaffe Pilots Badges and a pair of Iron Crosses. Both the Pilot Badges and Iron Crosses are quality and highly detailed reproductions. Mounted below is a professionally engraved plaque which reads as follows, The Knight's Cross - World War II Fighter Aces. Major Erich Hartmann 352 Victories, Major Gunter Rall 275 Victories, Oberleutnant Walter Schuck 206 Victories, Major Walter Krupinski 197 Victories, Oberleutnant Dietrich Hrabak 125 Victories, Generalleutnant Adolf Gallard 104 Victories, Oberleutnant Hans Trantloft 57 Victories, Major Hans-Ekkehand Bob 57 Victories, Oberleutnant Hans-Joachim Jabs 50 Victories, Major Heinz Lange 47 Victories, Oberleutnant Wolfgang Fetch 8 Victories. The display has been professionally assembled in all acid free materials with great attention to detail. The outer matte in a blue/grey linen which has been accented with a silver and a black inner matte and both the Pilots Badges and the Iron Crosses have also been shadow boxed within the display. The display has been assembled in a unique black frame [34.00 x 24.00] which has the appearance of an iron bar. The autographs are authentic, hand signed, and the bookplate contains an outstanding and very desirable grouping of World War II Knight's Cross recipients and many of them are the highest scoring fighter aces of World War II, including Hartmann who is the all-time leading fighter ace. The above listed fighter pilots have a combined total of 1,478 confirmed aerial victories and this is a very desirable World War II collectable which will be the center of any world war II fighter pilot collection.
