a-2 jacket, original wwll a-2 jacket, aaf, aac, named and painted a-2 jacket, ex: $1356.00
you are admiring a beautiful example of an original wwll a-2 jacket made by cable raincoats in 1942. the jacket is the 27753 contract, one of the so called \"no name\" contracts due to the fact that some makers of a-2s during wwll did not put their name on the nomenclature label. the jacket was worn by wayne e. comment, and he flew p-38s during the war, in the 429th fighter squadron, 474th fighter group, 9th air force. this group, and presumably w.c. comment flew strafing and support missions during d-day. the 429th was based in england, and later in belguim. there is a nara page for comment, stating that he enlisted in the aac in 1941, having been in civilian life a locomotive fireman. the jacket has a painted p-38 on the back which though easily seen, has the wear that would be expected from use. the 429th patch is thick, incised and painted on leather. it does show some wear as seen in the pix . neither the painted patch or painted p-38 glow under black light. the leather name tag is the stamped wings type with w.e. comment, and is sewn over stitch lines that would indicate a previous name tag having been sewn on. the leather is thick and supple through out. no thinning, no rot, no flaking, although there are surface scratches and abrasion. the liner is in way above average condition, showing modest fraying at the top back. the knits have been professionally replaced with the proper weight, and color wool knits. the original brass conmar zipper works flawlessly. there is one pocket stud that has broken off on the male side. the jacket does not have a size tag, but by the measurements, i would say it is a size 40 or 42. however, please read the measurements before offerding. chest from pit to pit: 22\". front length: 22 1/4\". sleeves from the shoulder seam to end of cuff: 25 1/2\". shoulder seam to shoulder seam at the top back: 18\". back length from the collar seam to bottom of the waistband: 25\". this wonderful piece of wwll aaf history is being offered without a reserve.
