This terrific photo was taken by Alexander Gardner two months before Lincoln was shot.We havecombined the best portions of two near-identical photos taken a minute or two apart. Historians know that Abe moved his head during one and moved his hands during the other. This caused blurring due to the slow shutter speed. Ourimage combines the best of both images. It is shown here in sepia tone (first picture) and the optional grayscale (second picture). Your print may show a little more of the empty background above Abe\'s head than we show here, depending on the shape of the print you order. Toneoptions:Your print will have a sepia tone as shown in the first pictureunless you request grayscale like the second picture. Sepia is the color of old prints today, caused by acid in the old paper. Many people prefer the warm sepia tones over cold black and white. Your sepia print will be on acid-free paper, but it will look old. Grayscaleis the way modern black and white prints are made.

Finish options: Your print will have a luster finish unless you request glossy when you pay. Glossy reflects glare but appears to be a bit sharper. Glossy also shows fingerprints more.
Luster (dull, less glare): Default finish
16x20 and larger have a satin finish which is similar to luster.
Glossy (shiny, more glare, looks sharper): Request when you pay
Not available in 16x20 nor larger sizes.
Border:Your print will have a minimum border. This means that there may be some white edges (less than 1/4 inch wide) outside the image so that you can display the maximum amount of the image in atypical display device that hides the edges of the print.
Quality: We select the highest-quality images we can find and carefully restore and improve them. Old photos do not meet today’s high standards due to the limitations of the materials and methods available in those days, and due to aging and damage. But we improve them as much as we can while preserving an old look. Then we process them using modern archival methods so they can be affordable and last for many years.
CD option: You can request to substitute a CD instead of a print. The CD will contain more than one version of the image, including at least one cropped close-up, that are optimized for digital presentations, and websites. The images will not exceed 1200 pixels in the longest dimension, and thus may not fill the screen when used for high definition displays. If we have additional information about the image, we will include a text file as well. You must request the CD in on the same day that you pay. The CD and images shall not be printed nor reproduced for sale nor distribution.
Packaging: We ship 5x7 and 8x10 prints and CDs flat with a stiff board to prevent folding, in a sturdy envelope. Larger sizes are carefully rolled and shipped in a sturdy mailing tube.
Shipping time: If you do not request substitutions, your 5x7 print will ship the next business day after we recieve your payment. You must request substitutions in on the same day that you pay, but your print or CD will then take a day or two longer to ship because it must be custom made. If you purchase additional items from quaintcards to ship together, an extra day or two may also be required. The time required by the postal services to deliver your package depends on shipping method, Customs requirements, weather, holidays, and other factors beyond our control.
Shipping cost: This item is sold with packaging materials and handling included in the price. Domestic postage is also included. For destinations outside the U.S.A., buyer pays actual postage.
