This is a very beautiful RARE 1862 Civil War Antique Hand Crank New England sewing machine, Rate R/4 by the Early American & Antique Encyclopedia, that I have restored. All old paint was removed and repainted black and after new Original decals where put on it was sprayed with clear paint to seal and protect the new decals. It sew a good stitch and works easy. All parts where cleaned and the parts where polished to a good shine. The wood base is solid Alder with Paw feet and a Gun Stock finish on it. It has new felt pads on the base to protect the table tops. It is possibly made by Shaw . It has the pat. date stamped on the presser foot spring of 1862, this is one of the telling points of how rare it is. The sewing mechanism is unique to this machine as you can see in the picture.R/4 has it as 6 to 30 number of surviving examples. This is next to the highest rated scale. Questions welcome. I ship International... # 356 This is a super Christmas Gift for you collectors. Because of the cost I will have to put a reserve which I don\'t usually do. You can\'t go wrong buying this one..

One thing I didn\'t put on the listing, this machine has the three number hand written on the under side of the cloth plate and the bottom side of the machine. The number is 163. That is also stated in the Antique sewing book on this machine. I will try to add the pictures I took and forgot to download to the listing.
