Damaged Meissen Figurine
Recent estate find. The bottom has the crossed swords mark, and there is an etched/impressed 2495 model number. Measures approximately 6-5/8” tall and 7-1/4” long. Weighs 2 pounds 13 ounces.
It’s an adorable figurine, but there is unfortunately a lot of damage, repairs and related condition concerns.
The right side figure’s foot that is hanging off the edge has been broken off and glued back on. This foot also has damage to the toes. There is flesh colored residue to these legs that you can scrape off the surface with your fingernail. There’s more of this residue on the arms and hands of the figure on the left side, indicating more poor repairs, restorations and whatnot. The front left side figure’s hands have major damage to the fingers – there are four fingers missing from one hand and a pinky missing from the other hand. The right side figure is missing a pinky as well.
With a blacklight, the front of this figurine has many areas that glow. I have included a photo taken with the figurine under a blacklight.
The front lower edge has more related discoloration that is either a noticeable indication of repair or possibly just sloppiness from the other restorations.
The back tip of the mauve or maroon colored robe has a large and ugly 3/8” chip. There is a larger area above this chip of noticeable discoloration that I assume is some sort of touchup work. The other side of this end of the robe has a 3/16” chip (more prominent white showing).
A back edge of the yellow robe has a 1/8” chunky rough spot. The top of the bundle that is being carried has a small rough spot. A finger of the hand that is holding the bundle is either damage or terribly crude. The back foot of the light purple robe figure has roughness to the toes.
The underside edge has two flakes that measure 1/4” and 3/16”. The underside edge is also badly darkened. There are some discolored areas of residue on the bottom edge from the sloppy restoration work.
I only quickly cleaned the figurine. Some of the tight spots are still rather filthy with dirtiness.
This is a nice opportunity to save a lot of money on a quality but badly damaged Meissen figurine.
