These were the saddles used in the Mexican American war in the 1840s and other conflicts up to and including the Civil War....from top of the pommel to the back of the seat is about 20 inch. Is just as I found it years ago in an old barn down in central Virginia years ago, is rather rough but then again itis probably over 160 years old. Please see my many photos that shows everything well and will better let you determine the saddles condition then if going by just my description...The wooden tree seems to be OK, has the brass trim and the sheilds are intact too...Not in the best of condition but still a very rare and I think rather important saddle I think and one I know you will like..Starting sale off low with ..I always charge actual postage, this one might be considerd an over size package, if it isn't I will refund you the extra postagecost
