<div style=\"text-decoration:none\" height=\"23px\" valign=\"middle\" face=\"arial\" Pattern for Exquisite Lacy 1912 Edwardian/Titanic Corset-Cover ~ In 4 Sizes (Sm to XL)
Exclusively from the Fashion Archaeologist -

\"What Rose Really Wore\"

Another rare treasure from The Fashion Archaeologist in our line of \'Edwardian Rose\' antique patterns -- a (paper) sewing pattern - our#1912-AL-001 - for an exquisite Edwardian corset-coverdeveloped from adesign that appeared in a French fashion magazine of early 1912, butdraftedin a multi-size format (see chart below), with full sewing instructions in English.

Please note that this listing is for a sewing pattern for the Corset-cover only, not the finished garment.

This little corset-cover is a late Edwardian piece of lingerie designed to be worn under the square necklines so popular in 1910 to 1912. It’s an incredibly lacy confection, with all the mixed lace detail traditionally lavished on fancy lingerie in the Edwardian era.Please scroll down to see all the photos of our sample corset-cover made from this pattern.

Although the body of the corset-cover is made of batiste, there is actually very little fabric in this design – the entire top half of the garment consists of different laces joined together to create the shape. The corset-cover closes in front with a hidden buttoned placket and the bust area is adjusted with ribbons. A narrow waistband finishes the lower edge.

Our pattern was taken directly from an early 1912 corset-cover design, but we’ve graded it into four ladies’ sizes – see below for size details.

Sewing Skill Level:This pattern is not difficult, but joining up the laces does take patient and careful sewing to execute properly, so we recommend it for those with intermediate sewing experience. We provide step-by-step instructions, including a reference diagram to guide you in assembling the laces correctly.

Recommended Fabrics: Fine, semi-sheer cotton batiste is the fabric of choice for this lovely piece of antique lingerie. We recommend using true Valenciennes laces and lace beading for this garment, to create the delicate antique effect. These laces are still manufactured today in France, and we provide information on where to source them. Although the rows of Valenciennes lace appear fragile, they areactually very sturdy when sewn together.

~~~~~~~~
Like all our patterns, this one is printed on sturdy 20lb paper. It includes step-by-step instructions in English, with measurements in both inches and centimetres, a list of the pattern pieces, suggested fabric and notions list, and a copy of the original French fashion sketch. In addition, our pattern comes in a handy re-useable plastic envelope.
~~~~~~~~

Size:

This is a multi-size pattern (ladies’ sizes Small, Medium, Large and Extra-Large) – see details below). Please be aware that seam allowances are not included on this pattern, to permit the various size lines to be followed clearly. However, reminders to add the required seam allowances are printed on the pattern.

The most important consideration for proper fit of the garment is the bust measurement. The waist can easily be altered by adjusting the gathering at the waistline. If your measurements are slightly beyond those given on our pattern, you can size the pattern up or down by one size from those already printed, and we provide instructions for doing this.

Our \'Edwardian Rose\' Patterns: We takeour patterns from the \"bare bones\" original antique designs (usually French), re-draw, correct, and clarify the outlines,addhelpful markings, then write complete English instructions.

If you\'ve ever tried to sew from an original antique pattern, you\'ll know that they can be a challenge at best and mystifying at worst, especially the \"instructions\", which were often no more than a few lines of text. The reason for this was that these patterns were meantfor useby dressmakers with experience in the construction techniques of the era.

A great deal oftime and skill goes into creating each of our patterns. We\'ve taken the hard work out of interpreting these fashions to make them as accessible as modern commercial sewing patterns.To see what sets our \'Edwardian Rose\' patterns apart from other antique patterns, click on \"Store Pages\" in the lower left navigation bar on our store Home page.

The only thing that is not included isa pattern layout sketch. This is because fabric widths can vary considerably, giving many possible layouts for one pattern - these would be very time-consuming to anticipate anddraw out, and would unnecessarily increase the cost of developing these patterns. We therefore suggest you do a test layout, based on the width of your chosen fabric. Otherwise, all the information you will need to complete the garment is included.

If you love heirloom sewing, you’ll enjoy working on this beautiful corset-cover.If you are a costume maker, this patternwould be perfectfor theatrical or historical exhibit use.The pattern itself would make a thoughtful gift for an heirloom sewing enthusiast.

A unique pattern for fine antique Edwardian lingerie!
