AntiqueRosewood Sewing MachineNeedle Case
C.D. Wheeler *1859 Patent Date
This case isinteresting because it\'snot the larger one commonly seen. That one has \'Wheeler &Wilson Sewing Machines\' aroundthe needle sizes on the top. This is obviously an earlier example. I\'llshow the two tops together in the pictures. Thisone iscarved of nicely grained rosewood. It was made to hold sewingmachine needles and is divided inside for the differentsizes. The topis covered in copper and is stamped with the needle sizes and how theycorrespond to the thread sizes.
Underthe toprim this one is stamped \"C. D Wheeler - Patented May 17, 1859\". Itmeasures 2 1/2\" high and thebottom is slightly over 3/4\" in diameter, much smaller than the laterversion. The condition is excellent with no chips or cracksand it has a nice old patina.
I stand behindeverything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly aspresented.
