My Dad served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Berlin after VE day. When he came home in 1946, he brought back a lot of souvenirs from the war. We have been sorting through his memorabilia and have decided to list some of his things on . There are several dozen items - I will be listing them over the next few days. Please message me if you have any questions about the items. He was a meticulous record keeper, and left notes with almost all of the items. I will do my best to describe them in detail.
This is a German World War I iron cross medallion. It is dated 1914. It is in a small, black presentation box with a push button closure. It has a \'screw on\' back. It doesn\'t have a loop on top. I have been reading a lot of web sites about how to determine whether it is a real iron cross or a reproduction. As far as I can tell, I think that is authentic. I can slide a piece of paper between the black part and the frame, which demonstrates that it is made from at least 2 pieces. And with a magnifying glass I can see a solder seam around some of the edges. It has definitely never been cleaned or touched up in any way - I\'m not sure Dad ever even looked after he brought it home in 1946.
