Beautiful 1901 Pathe Portable Cylinder Phonograph w/Dual Mandrels, Endgate:
$430.00

If you\'re searching for something to take your mind off of what will soon be the dog days of summer, look no further than the seven great listings I\'ve got on this week. I won\'t pick favorites, but I willsay that as a group they\'re some of the nicest mechanical, technological and musical antiques I\'ve put up for sale all year. Check them all out. You won\'t be disappointed.
Here\'s a tiny, uncommon and quite beautiful Pathe cylinder phonograph that dates to the turn of the last century. Barely larger than a Columbia Q, this was the smallest dual-mandrel machine that Pathe made, yet everything (except for the Puck-style horn) can be stored inside the cabinet. It plays both standard sized cylinders and Pathe\'s larger Salon cylinders, one of which is included.
As you can see in the pictures, condition is excellent throughout. The nickel plating is original, with virtually no deterioration, and none of the parts are repaired or damaged, including the original red rubber coupler that connects the gutta percha reproducer to the Puck style horn. The mechanism is in excellent condition overall, and the governor is working properly. The reproducer is original, and it still sounds good.
Cabinet is beautiful, with a pristine original finish and a nearly perfect original cabinet decal. Latches are working, and they snugly secure the lid to the base.
The winding key is original, and it\'s in excellent condition.
Please note that this is a groove-driven phonograph (similar to a Puck), with a combined horn and reproducer that are carried across the surface of the record by the inward spiral of the record\'s groove. There is no feed-screw assisting it, and the arc of its travel constantly changes the position of the stylus on the record\'s surface. Accordingly, the phonograph must be set up on a perfectly flat table, with the reproducer angled properly and the extension arm set at the proper length. If the phonograph is not set up properly, it will not play properly. This is all a diplomatic way of saying that if you\'re not familiar with the operation of a Puck type phonograph, this phonograph is probably not a good choice for you.
As noted above, I\'ll include with the phonograph a Pathe Salon cylinder.
With the lid on, the phonograph measures just 9\" x 7\" x 5\" -- a fraction of the size of most phonographs. Shipping weight, properly packed, will be about 16 lb.
That\'s about it. I will carefully prep everything for shipping and pack everything carefully and properly. I\'ve been shipping fragile antique phonographs and wireless sets for years, and I know how to get them to you safely. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
