BENNY MOTZFELDT Rare 1967 Sapphire UNDERSEA BUBBLES GLOBE VASE -A1 + Label:
$103.58

DESCRIPTION: for reference please see Fire and Sea - Scandinavian Glass 1930 to 2000 - Vigier and Pina - Page 74 for a very similar Benny Motzfeldt Undersea Bubbles Globe vase.

Absolutely stunningand exquisitely decoratedartglass spherical, orb like, Undersea Bubbles globe vase designed by the much acclaimed and respected Norwegian artist, designer and artglass master Benny Motzfeldt for Randsfjordglass in1967, featuring a tapestry of exquisitely placed and positioned large, small, minute and microscopic bubbles, embellished with a stunning crater like, embeddedmetal. The vase is sublimely decorated in a sea aquatic colours that include sapphire, azure, petrol blue, cobalt, emerald, aquamarine and an ethereal smokey blue/grey against a dazzling emerald green ground. Benny Motzfeldt studied graphic design at the National College of Arts & Design. From 1955 to 1967 she worked as a designer at Hadeland before moving to Randsfjordglass in 1967. Since 1970 she designed for Plus Glasshytte. During the 70\'s she solidifies her position as one of Norways leading artglass designers whereby she often fused glass with metal, gauze, mesh and other innovative and very pleasing textural combinations.

The exquisitedecorated sphericalglobe vasestarts with arounded cased to clear base to which the piece rests. The latter surrounds a central slightly sunken arena which in turn surrounds an original Randsfjordglass blacka nd white paper label - please see below or the last photo. The piece splays outwards at an acute angleto form a slightly bulbous lower region that then displays sublime arcing, crescented side walls. The piece progresses to form a perfect spherical orb or globe like form of stunning weight, balance and proportion. The globe vase\'s upper reaches display gently sloping, receding walls that are sublimely mounted with a quiet superlative textural slightly tapering metal neck and mouthrim. The latter displays fine thread like grooves or impressions whereby the vases reduced neck splays outwards at its lower reaches. The piece represents the resulting chaos of a volcanic lava flow and its effects as the molten lava reaches the sea.The exquisitedecorative Undersea Bubbled effectsand the colouration of the globe vase cannot be over emphasised as the piece is literallyadorned with millions of minute, small and micoscopic bubbles all seemingly jostling for position. The vases infinite array of clustered bubbles creates a dramatic and quite stunning effect of some beauty. Sporadically placed larger bubbles allow the viewer just an intriguing glimpse into the pieces almost bejewelled emerald green ground. The amazing almost celestial tapestry of shimmering and glistening bubbles cascade down the vases gently sloping arcing perimeter walls. This series of vases is perhaps more recognisable for its striated textural metal summit which has been almost melded into the vases thick walled core. The piece is truly... truly stunning whereby Benny Motzfeldt\'s pieces are very rare and extremely sought after. Her exquisite and very effective portrayal of Undersea Bubbles and the dramatic bubbling chaos caused as intensely hot lava flows reach and dramatically alter the seas previous calm.....is truly sublime. When both natural and unnatural penetrates the vases outer surface the resultingeffects are even more dazzling. The spherical vase is simply a tour-de-force of exquisite design anddecoration I cannot fault the piece at all.The vase represents an excellent example of her extraordinary talentswhereby its colouration and dramatic effects and features take the piece onto a completely higher level of artistic merit and technical excellence.
