I think it\'s safe to say that if -- after checking out all my listings this week -- you can\'t find anything that interests you, you either aren\'t really looking, or there\'s nothing in the world that you find interesting anymore. I\'ve put together what\'s probably my largest, best, most diverse and cleanest assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques of the year, and regardless of how discriminating your tastes might be, I think you\'ll find something you like.
Here\'s a complete Rochester Optical 5 x 8 camera outfit that dates to the late 1880\'s and includes a dark cloth, a set of Waterhouse stops, a wood tripod, a Rochester Optical 5 x 8 plate holder (these are even harder to track down the camera itself), and the camera\'s original R.O.C. case.
Condition is excellent, as you can see in the photos. Bellows are clean and original, with normal age-related wear and some fading but no misfolds. Front standard and lens board are clean and the wood is well-matched. Lens board is original to the camera, and the original R.O.C. ID plate on the front standard is clean and legible. Finish everywhere is original. Nickel-plated fittings are original and in excellent condition, with normal age-related tarnish.
The John Wannamaker branded lens is almost certainly original to the camera and appears to have been made by Darlot in Paris (as a client lens). It has five Waterhouse stops that are in good shape, with fading enamel but no rust. The plate holder is in good condition, and the fiber slides are intact, although one of the wood pull tabs is missing. The ground glass panel is in excellent condition, with no damage. The camera advances and retracts with minimal effort along with the bed\'s focusing rail. The tripod is in good shape, and its legs extend up to more than 50\". Case is in good shape, too, with all of its original hardware intact, including handle. Dark cloth is reasonably clean, with no tears or insect damage.
In short, a very nice and quite beautiful camera outfit that the camera is being offered for historical purposes only. It has not been tested with cut film or glass plates, and no assurances are made with respect to its \"usability\" for photography.Shipping weight will be about 20 lb.That\'s about it.
