Please view and enlarge all images. Let the description below be secondary to the pictures in helping you determine condition of this receiver. More importantly, ask questions before you place a offer.
Fisher 500 tube receiver. Single owner. Unit has been placed on the variac for three days. I never plug any vintage audio into a outlet without first taking this precaution. Day 1 - 60v, Day 2 - 90v and final day is 117v half the day and the rest of the day at 117v line voltage directly into the wall outlet. The current draw was an easy .85 amps. The fuse is rated at 3 amps. So it is functioning effortlessly.
I tested the unit for a full day. I was only able to use the AM radio, not having a dipole antenna to test FM. AM stations came in flawlessly with outstanding selection, sensitivity, and clarity. The tuning eyes for both AM and FM are working perfectly and have a rich turquoise glow. The phono stage was simply amazing. My main system is Marantz Model 5 mono blocks, a Fisher 400CX-2 preamplifier, with a Garrard 301 hammertong. This unit is every bit as warm and smooth as the Marantz. The bass is crazy tight and full at the flat setting. The volume control tracks very well. It does need to get a dose of DeOxit. It has a slight crackle, but that may work itself out the more it is used, but certainly cleaning the control will expedite this. Turned slowly it is quiet.
While in working order, like all vintage electronics, while I would like to guarantee it, at any given moment a tube, capacitor, or resistor may need replacing. For this reason, the receiver is sold by accepted audio standards for vintage used equipment, \"AS IS.\" While this unit iscosmeticallyvery nice and in good working order, it is not new. It has some wear associated with age. The tubes appear to be original compliment of Telefunken, Fisher branded, Westinghouse and RCA.
The unit comes with a rarely seen option, an original Fisher metal cabinet that is in fantastic condition. It is a textured leather brown. To safely ship this unit, it will require shipping the unit and cabinet separately. A slight increase to cost, but necessary to avoiddamagingthe unit.
CONDITION REPORT: Very Good cosmetic condition. Some speckling on thechassisthat may or may not come off with a dedicated cleaning. Cabinet it near perfect. Dial glass excellent and lettering virtually 100%. New owner may want to remove glass to clean off the dust on inside of glass.
DIMENSIONS: 16\" wide, 13\" deep, 5 1/2\" tall.
