Very rare and beautiful, original ca1880 Chromolithograph Paperboard Advertising Sign for “Piper-Heidsieck Plug Tobacco\" featuring a portrait of a beautiful, Victorian Bride and a magnum of champagne. This wonderful and very rare, American tobacco company Advertising Sign measures approx. 20\" by 27\" (sheet size) and is framed in what appears to be its original, period wooden frame.
The Sign features a simply wonderful Image with the young and beautiful Bride wearing a low cut, white satin dress and matching veil with flowers in her hair and on the strap of her gown. She is framed by a window and above the window there is text that reads \"Piper-Heidsieck Plug Tobacco. Winged angels / putti sit on the letter \"P\" drinking champagne and holding a package of plug tobacco. The window is surrounded by flowers and grapes and fall colored leaves. and at the right there is a large bottle of Champaign on a silver tray that has just \"popped its cork\". Text on the silver tray reads \"Champagne Flavored\". At the lower left there are three product packages of Piper-Heidsieck Plug Tobacco and at the lower right text that reads \"National Tobacco Works / Louisville, Ky\".
The chromolithography on this stunningly beautiful, 19th century Tobacco Sign is of the very highest quality although the Sign does not carry the mark of the lithographer (although the mark could be hidden under the edge of the frame).
The Sign is in excellent+ condition - the colors are rich and warm and the Sign displays beautifully. The surface is clean and crisp and retains its original coated stock shine. There is no soiling, staining, fading or age toning and there is no physical damage of any kind except for a single very small white spot just above the bride\'s head and a small and unobtrusive blemish above her left eye - otherwise the Sign is without flaw. It appears that this Sign has never been removed from what appears to be its original frame (overall size of frame is approx. 24\" by 31\").
