Rare and original, ca1910 Chromolithograph Celluloid Advertising Pocket Mirror for the \"S. S. Urfer Big Store\" - a huge General Store / early Department Store in New Philadelphia, Ohio - featuring a portrait of a beautiful young woman in the \"Pretty Girl\" style of Angelo Asti.


This very attractive, Advertising Mirror measures approx. 2 1/8\" in diameter and features a bust portrait of a beautiful young woman wearing a low cut dress and a red ribbon in her long, flowing auburn colored hair. Text on the Mirror reads “S. S. Urfer / Big Store\" and \"New Philadelphia, Ohio\". The Mirror is signed by the manufacturer - The Meek Company of Coshocton, Ohio.


The image of the beautiful, young woman is not signed by the artist but is executed in the \"Pretty Girl\" genera introduced by Artist Angelo Asti. Asti burst upon the American Advertising Art scene in 1904 with his first Art Nouveau style image of a beautiful, buxom girl titled “Colette”. He originated what is called the “pretty girl” style of Advertising Art - \"Pretty girl\" art is a term used to refer to painting of a glamour art nature that was done by mainstream illustrators. It found its audience among popular magazines like The Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan and in the world of advertising.


This rare and original, ca1910 Celluloid Advertising Mirror is in excellent condition - clean and crisp and very attractive with no soiling or staining, nor any damage or repairs of any kind to the celluloid surface. The mirror back is also in excellent condition with no loss to the silver backing.
