This is the Halls Excelsior cast iron mechanical bank cir. 1869 made by J & E Stevens.It is considered to be the first cast iron mechanical bank made. The operation is simple.Pull the knob on the front and the monkey w/ desk pops out on the top.Place a coin on the desk and let go of the knob.It will deposit into the bank.The top is cast \" PAT DEC 21 1869 \".
