Cast Iron \"MAMMY AND CHILD\" EXCELLENT PLUS Mechanical Bank Original Antique Toy:
$4320.00

Tonight I am listing some antique original cast iron Mechanical Banks. The banksare being listed with and a reasonable starting price. The owner of thebankshas reluctantlydecided to part with much of his collection and continues that tonight. This is the \"MAMMY AND CHILD\" Mechanical Bank manufactured by the Kyser & Rex Co., Philadelphia, Pa. It was patented October 21, 1884 by Alfred Rex. This is a favorite of many collectors and is one of the few banks with two coin slots. The theme and idea of the action is quite original, with the coin in one case representing food or medicine being given to the baby. In addition to the unique feature of the two coin slots, the subject matteris alsounique among the mechanical banks. When initially sold, it was known as the \"Baby Mine\" bank.

There are no cracks, breaks orother damage and the paint is stillstrong and bright. The bank has been with the same family for many years and was well cared for as is evidentby this excellent pluscondition bank with over 90% of the original paint. This is, nodoubt, thefinest Mammy andChildsold one now and inthe future. For the discerning collector, this is, indeed, a singular opportunity to purchasearare andtruly iconic mechanical bank. The last picture is from Dan Morphy\'s book \"Official Price Guide To Mechanical Banks\".

As regards the coin slots. the child\'s large wide mouth serves as one of the coin slots and it is capable of receiving five cent piece. Also, the slot in the apron can be used for larger size coins and the mechanism operates in either case. Actually, quarters and half dollars will work as well.

To Operate, the coin can be placed on the spoon. Another larger coin can be placed in the pocket of the Mammy. The operating lever is then depressed downward. When the lever is pressed the Mammy lowers her head as though watching what she is doing. At the same time she turns her right hand lowering the spoon to the open mouth of the baby, so that the tip of the spoon touches the lower lip of the baby. The coin slides into the baby\'s mouth and on into the bank. In conjunction with this action the legs of the baby rise upward and the coin in the apron pocket drops automatically into the bank. Because of the fragile nature of the spoon, in practice it is recommended that the apron coin slot be used.

The bank is in proper working order and has the traditional Kyser & Rex key coin trap. The bank is approximately 4 1/2\" long, 4\" wide and 8\" tall. This exclusive bank will make a wonderful addition to your collection.Banks in similar condition have recently sold for $6,000.+Please view the other banks up for sale tonight.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL buyers!
