CONTAREX Ziess Ikon BULLSEYE Camera with 50mm 50/2 PLANAR Lens Sold AS IS 1 1959 Here we have a truly stunning vintage camera: one of the most deluded cameras made in the late 1950’s and 1960’s: The Contarex Bullseye. As you can see in the images the camera is in very good cosmetic condition showing minimal if any signs of actual use. Unfortunately mechanically the camera and lens have issues. The camera shutter curtains have tiny pin prick holes in them and are not light proof. The lens focus is locked completely at infinity- it will not move at all. Also there is some separation of the lens visible on an inner element edge (see photos). The lens glass is otherwise very good: no scratches, etc. Other than these flaws the camera does function: the shutter fires well at all speeds down to one second very well, the lens aperture blades shut down snappily, the view through the finder is very clear. The helium light meter needle moves with changes to the light but is not tested for accuracy. Basically this camera has issue because it sat in a cupboard for over 40 years without being used. The shutter cloth has deteriorated with time and the lens focus has seized. It is perfect for a display or collection but will need to repaired if you want to shoot film with it.
