Dual-size (Lrg/XLrg) Sewing Patternfor Elegant 1912 Edwardian Blouse~ Includes Embroidery Design ~ Exclusively from the Fashion Archaeologist

Another rare treasure from The Fashion Archaeologist -- our antique sewingPattern #1912-A-001 for a graceful Edwardian blouse in\"pigeon-breasted\" style, developed from a 1912 French antique design, butdraftedina ladies dual size (Large & Extra-Large)(see size details below). This blouse has the delicate pin-tucking and embroidery that were hallmarks of Edwardian \"lingerie\" blouses, as well asthehigh collar typical of the era, decorated with embroidery and pintucks. Not a large size? See the Medium size listing for this pattern in our store.

Please note this listing is fora sewing pattern for the blouse only, notthe finished garment. The skirt displayed in the photos is not included in this pattern, but is available in our store (#1912-A-002).

Every Edwardian lady would have had at least one fine quality blouse like this in her wardrobe, and this style would have been the latest thing for the spring of1912.

The embroidery design for the front and shoulder areas, which is included in this pattern, was taken directly from the 1912 original. On our test garment, we did this embroideryusing a combination of individual machine embroidery stitches, which gave the look of the original embroidery without the time involved in handwork. If you are keen on historical accuracy, you could do the embroidery by hand, which would exactly re-create the original.

To wear this blousejust as it would have been in 1912, the pattern includes a matching belt (purchased decorative front closure). In 1912 this blouse would have been worn with a dressy tailored suit or as an informal dinner ensemble with a fancy silk skirt. Make this blouse in quality Swiss batiste and wear it with an antique-style corset cover underneath-- gorgeous!(See our store for corset cover patterns)

The original 1912 design called for wool mousseline (a fine, semi-sheer, crepe-like wool), but it\'sjust as lovely made upinlightweight semi-sheer linen, fine cotton batiste, or silk.We\'ve included pictures of the sample garment made in linen with machine embroidery.We\'ve also included a photo of the original antique French sketch of 1912.

Recommended Skill Level (2.5/5):This patternwould be a great choice for someone with solid beginner\'s sewing skills who would like to try a fairly straightforward heirloom sewing project. The embroidery around the front of the blouse can be omitted, making the blouse quicker and easier to complete.

SIZE:Ladies dual size (Large and Extra-Large)-see detailed measurements below, and the picture of the pattern envelope. The sizing is fairly flexible through the waist and hips. Guidelines are given in the pattern instructions for making basic alterations. Not a size Large/XL? We have this pattern in a Medium size in our store, in paper and on CD.

Our \'Edwardian Rose\' Patterns:Like all our patterns, this one is professionally printedon sturdy 20lb paper. It includes detailed cutting and sewing instructions in English, with measurements in inches and centimetres, a suggested fabric and notions list, as well as a copy of the antique fashion sketch. The pattern comes in handy resealable plastic envelope. We take these patterns from the \"bare bones\" original antique patterns (usually from French sources), re-draw, correct, and clarify the outlines, assemble the pattern piece(s)onto one sheet, add helpfulmarkings and notations, then write step-by-step Englishinstructions. If you have ever tried to sew from an original antique pattern, you\'ll know they can be a challenge at best and mystifying at worst, with few (if any) sewing instructions. We\'ve takenthehard work out of interpreting these fashions to make them accessible for modern sewing. To see what sets our \'Edwardian Rose\' patterns apart from other antique patterns, click on the link to \"Store Pages\" on our store home page. The only thing that isnotincluded is a pattern layout sketch. This is because fabric widths can vary considerably, giving many possible layouts for one pattern. These would be very time-consuming to anticipate and draw out, and would unduly increase the cost of developing our patterns. We therefore suggest that you do a test layoutbased on the width of your chosen fabric. Otherwise, all the information you will need to complete the garment is included.
