Early 1800\'s Native American Tomahawk Bird Effigy: $650.00
This tomahawk was acquired from a private collection in Montana. Found by the collector while hunting game in the late 80\'s. The head of the axe looks to be blacksmith made with no maker\'s mark visible. It has also been wrapped with rawhide that still shows remnants of the original paint. It also has a feather hanging from the top that is damaged but still intact. It even has a small eye shaped cut in the hide on one side of the head making this piece an amazing example of an early bird effigy. It still has the original handle intact and although slightly damaged it is very solid and feels great in the hand. This piece was likely created to be a weapon and used during times of war. It\'s even possible that it saw some heavy utilitarian use along the way as well judging by the contact marks on the blade edge. I would date the piece between early-mid 1800s. I do not know the exact tribe this axe originated with but the winner will receive the name of the town where this piece was recovered so that might help. The piece measures 18\" overall and the head is 3 1/2\"L. The blade is 2 1/4\" tall. This is an amazing piece and any collector will be proud to make this the newest addition. offer with confidence and feel free to contact me with serious inquiries anytime. Thanks in advance.
