A hard to find early Rochester Optical Co. Empire State View wooden camera in 5x8 format, circa 1896, serial number 48 embossed in bed. Camera is in exceptionally clean, well cared for condition. Body is solid, with excellent overall finish. Base shows typical wear from tripod use. Drop bed lever locks securely and all controls/movements are working properly. Hardware is in excellent condition with brass showing nice patina. Has front rise & limited rear tilt. Camera has ground glass viewing screen, bellows are excellent, no light leaks or misfolds. Camera was found with 2 Barker & Starbird 4x5 Eurygraphs mounted on the lens board, with serial numbers 4085 and 4272. Lenses have excellent barrel cosmetics and are optically clean and clear. It needs to be noted that the rear elements mounted on the barrels are identical, but are non-original, nonetheless, they focus sharply and give proper stereo coverage. The original lens elements will be included, with one showing a significant flake in the glass. A good user 5 x 8 wooden plate holder will also be included.
