Enfield P1903 Bayonet by Wilkinson dated 3 \'95 : $124.50
This is an excellent example of the P1093 bayonet manufactured by Wilkinson of London in England and clearly stamped 3 \'95 which is unusual for a P1903. Research of that period finds that trials of the Lockyer type \"E\" bayonet had a pattern 1903 hilt. Possibly these were used to fulfill the P1903 contract. This begs some further research. It is stamped 1.L.D. over an old P and some numbers on the hilt which is 1st Battalion City of London, and issued to the \"Home Guard\" as an emergency to fill a shortage on the No1 bayonet. It has an excellent blade with a couple of scratches near the tip, possibly velocity marking from the scabbard. The release / locking mechanism is in good working order. It has the crown of King Edward VII above 1903 and 3 \'95. On the reverse is the British broad arrow of British ownership above WD for War Department above an inspection and \"X\" bend stamp. On the edge of the blade is more inspection stamps. The Walnut grips have some indication of its over 100 years of service. The brown leather scabbard is not as issued for the P1903 and was most probably issued in the Far East Theatre late in the war. It is stamped CO\'1944 over C broad arrow 42. It has 19 also stamped on the reverse side. It has a brass stud to secure the bayonet with a leather strap with good undamaged stitching on the edge. The one edge is open possible for quick release.
