Up for sale is my personal English Hardy-made Orvis CFO IV flyreel with original case.
Memory fades with time, but I remember purchasing it around ’85 or ’86from a great shop called Country Pleasures in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Exposed rivets on the back face, purchase around‘85/’86, places it as one of the post screw-back, but still Englishmanufactured, Hardy-made, Orvis CFO reels.
Condition: Barely used, conditionis excellent if not better. Please referto images and description for all details.
History: Back in the 80’s I movedto Calgary, Alberta. After learning to flyfishon the Bow River, I purchased this reel and paired it with an Orvis graphiteAll-Rounder 4-piece “pack rod” (which is also up for sale, please see that separatelisting). The gear was used less than ½dozen times. Life’s priorities changed,I moved back to the Central Prairies, and the reel and rod went into storagewhere it’s sat for the past 30 years. Timeto sell it before it ends up on my estate sale!
Mechanical: The reel is in fullworking condition, but I’m assuming it should be lubricated. The reel was in excellent working condition whenit was placed in storage, and was stored with the tension set to the lightestsetting. When removing the spool forphotographs I noticed the grease had dried around the base of the spindle (notsurprising, it sat for 30 years). Allthe old dried lubricant was cleaned away for the photos.
Cosmetics: One word… EXCEPTIONAL. The images speak for themselves. The reel foot shows some subtle markings (itwas after all mounted on a rod and used a few times), but otherwise shows nodents, dings, scratches, abrasions, or wear marks. Yes, it is NOT New In Box, but I challengeyou to find a reel of this vintage in better condition. Look closely at the images, my son and I shota lot of images to showcase the pristine condition of this reel.
Included is the original fleece-lined, suede leather, zipper case, also in excellent condition.
The original line is still on the spool, but there’s probably novalue in a 30+ year-old line. I justleft it as is. Reel was stored in a drylocation, and there was no evidence of mildew or anything like that.
There are lots of reels; many good ones, some great ones, and a fewclassics.
The English Hardy-made Orvis CFO Spring & Pawl series are muchsought after great reels, regarded as classics. If you want a great looking classic reel for your collection to displayon a shelf, this is it.
But, better yet, if you want a great looking classic reel for yourcollection that you can enjoy fishing with, this is definitely it.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a true timeless classic inpristine condition.
offerding starts at $185.
