EXTREMELY RARE Knife Antique Laguiole \"SAUZEDE ANGELY 55\" 1840s-1930s Vintage For Sale

Its still surprises me that I own this gem. Laguioles are a style of knife developed in the Theirs region of France in the 1840\'s many knife a tool makers in the area made knives for the herders and shepherds also in Spain and southern France. This is one of those knives. Although difficult to put an exact date on this horn handled piece, it looks to be from the late 1850s, maybe as late as 1930\'s, certainly not later. These knives where hand made for herders and shepherds and often bore a brass studded cross on the side for them, as Catholics, to prey while away from the church on the long migratory route between Spain and Southern France. Legend says the blade was thrust into the ground, and the cross on the handle made an \'alter\'. This specimen has the cross with four extra studs in design. The blade on all specimens were used for everything, and this one has a small chip from the end. The other end bares am awl or trocar used to puncture the rumen of a suffering animal to expel extra gas from an often deadly bloat. This knife does have some minor play in the trocar pivot. Most of their knives bore their name, and this one also, however somehow the \'y\' was left off in mistake, or from broken tooling when marking the blade.
