Offered is a lovely older Great Lakes Indian Quill Birch Bark and Sweetgrass Basket Box, featuring a small red flower with green leaves.
The person who made it was very skilled as the quills are tiny and neatly attached, especially on the top. Please see pictures.
This came from the Great Lakes Region, either Canada or the US. I don\'t have any background on this one, however. The black thread and use of paper behind quills are hallmarks of the Manitoulin Island quill box makers, but I purchased this in a lot with other quill boxes from Canada and the US. It measures 3 1/4\" by 2 1/2\".
An older basket, it displays beautifully but look carefully at pictures. There are glued quills on bottom and some small breaks/nicks at bottom or top edges of bottom portion of basket.
OurNative American and First Nation items have been collected from variousplaces--sales, estate sales, pow wows and craft stores from our travels. Many of our Quill Boxes come from Manitoulin Island, where we spend part of each summer. We hate to let some of these items go but with our children in college, it\'s time to liquidate some of the collection and share our items with others.
