Gothic Echophone Model 60 Cathedral Art Deco Tube Radio from 1931 - Works NR For Sale

It\'s not too early to think about this special Christmas present for yourself or that radio collector in your life.Here for your consideration is an Ornate Echophone Model 60 Cathedral Tube Radio that sold for $53 in 1931. This is one of the most beautiful cathedral Radios you can buy. Some consider this Art Deco set to be “the most visually appealing radio ever made”. A Gothic masterpiece, its grill and escutcheon was artfully done in pressed wood and framed by classical and elegant pilasters, pointed arches and moldings – a beautiful work of art. This 17” x 14” x 8” set is in working condition, but could use some cabinet work to make the set really POP. It would be a great winter project for someone, or it displays very well as is. The front is nice with no chips or cracks in the ornate grill, escutcheon, or pillars. These are some chips around the top edge. Basically what this set needs is a new piece of Walnut veneer around the case, or the current veneer glued back down. Cabinet itself is solid. My tech friend Tom replaced the electrolytic capacitors and a 25 ohm 2 watt resistor in this 7 tube radio that uses three #35s, a 27, a 24, an 80 rectifier, and a 47 for some powerful output. The radio plays well with a short wire antenna in my basement picking up a number of stations across the dial with plenty of volume and good tone using its separate tone control. Dial looks nice lit up at night!! Comes with a copy of the schematic. Don’t miss this one as these are very hard to come by in any condition. Good Luck, Radioorphanage  NR
