Pros: wifi connectivity, it has builtin audio streaming links, other features, even limited web browsing. in addition to commercial blu-ray and dvd products, it can play .mp4 files burned to blu-ray and dvd media. the remote works very well and the user interface is easy to navigate without reading a manual. Cons: it can be a little slow at power on, and when jumping between some functions. it will not play other movie formats like .mkv burned to media.

The Sony Model BDP-S185 is easy to hook-up and easy to use. The picture is excellent quality for both Blu-ray and DVD disc. I would recommend this product.

Did you know that the modern Sony BluRay players do not give you the option of "Audio Output"..... What I mean by this is, if you don't have a "Modern" (at least within the last +- 7years) audio receiver that has a HDMI A/V input, you will not be able to play your BluRay or any DVD /audio Cd through your receiver (unless you use the optical or digital audio out plug (do a little research to see which one it may utilize). If it says it has optical or digital audio out it basically means you can use a receiver that is +-10 years old (providing that your receiver has optical / digital input). For this reason alone I like this Smart BluRay Player. My Sony 46" 1080p LCD tv is not a smart tv. I use this BluRay Player to stream Netflix from my home router wireless. IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!! A short few years ago, RED Box change their formatting on their BluRay DvDs. I put it into my player and I got an error code. I called the 800 number on the back of the red jewel case and the Red Box "Agent" told me that I needed to up date my "firmware" on my BluRay player in order to play their BD (BluRay Disk). At that time I was not even aware that this Sony BDP -S390 was able to link to the internet and up date itself (read the instructions but basically it is in one of the menus. I don't remember at this moment as I am typing.... Just look in the instruction manual under "probably" up dating or up grading the firmware or something like that).... but that was a side note.... The point is that technology is ever changing and I am glad that I did not have to buy/purchase a new BD Player because Red Box changed the way they "encode" their BD. Fast forward to today. I am a videographer and a photographer by trade. I recently started offering my clients the option of having their video produced/burned onto a BD..... Wouldn't you know it..... as fate would have it, the burner that I purchased burns BD disk to the "new format". Not all of my clients can play my BD because one although it is "clearly stated in my contract(s)" just as it is clearly stated when you rent a Red Box BD, YOU MUST HAVE A BLURAY PLAYER TO PLAY BLURAY DVD and two..... a healthy percentage of my clients have the older BD Players that can not be up graded thus making them blame me(my product). This BDP-S390 player plays "MOST IF NOT EVERY DISK OUT THERE" I have not encountered one dvd that was not playable that I could not play.... (Bad Burns Aside)...... You can find this BD Player costing anywhere between $35-$99.... SPOILER......PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!!!! You Must Have And Use The Remote.... This BD is USELESS WITHOUT THE REMOTE....!!!!!!! I don't care what the buttons say on the actual BD Player. You CAN NOT PLAY A DVD WITHOUT THE REMOTE......!!!!!! Yes there is a "play" button on the BD Player body...... Trust me PLEASE....... you need the remote... I used this machine to play videos through my projector while on site at an assignment. One time I mistakenly left the remote at home. I had to leave my PAID ASSIGNMENT...go back home... pick up the remote that I left on my "black ottoman" (it blended in the the ottoman so I didn't recognize I left it) and return to my assignment to be able to start the dvd that I was hired to show....... uuuuuuuggggggg!!!!!! IF you decide to buy this (or most likely any other Sony BD Player) used, please be sure to read the description(s) and make sure that the remote is included with the BD Player that you are buying/bidding on. IF not.... no worries, you can always buy a remote off of eBay for a few more dollars..... FYI..... /BTW...... it is highly advisable that you have DSL &/or Highspeed internet service to stream Netflix if you don't want it pausing (buffering) several times throughout the movie..... Yes Netflix is a monthly subscription but it sure is a lot cheaper than cable....... I'm Just Saying....... Bottom line is, which ever BD Player you get, use a HDMI cable.... Why buy a luxury car and put the cheapest gas in it. How can you expect a sports car to run it's best when you don't give it the best chance to perform the way it was intended..... That is what HDMI cables are.... It gives your 1080p.....UHD (aka 4K)... the best chance of giving you the clearest and sharpest picture and color saturation.. Read full review

Not the best, but certainly a great value and many features.

I received this player a few years ago as a Christmas gift. I loved it enough to buy another for a gift this Christmas. It works well with older TVs and new TVs with HDMI connections. I do find a problem on occasion with the unit not powering down correctly, it is an easy fix by unplugging it from the power source. I watch Netflix often on the player with great results. I would recommend the player even for individuals that stream video often or have the player running daily.
