Good player and Yes! it will play all the regions it states it can 1 thru 8 but the player shows up in the PAL output mode. You are not told this so you have to search the manual on how to change this. It is not easily found or indicated as an important priority. At first I thought my NTSC monitors were just to old to handle the signal running PAL discs but it was the mode of the player that was the problem. Turn unit off-press forward button ] on the front panel NOT REMOTE then press power on/standy and everytime you do this same method you can cycle the player from NTSC to PAL to AUTO. Info that would have been helpful upfront, as I spent 4 days with it unable to view my PAL discs on my NTSC gear. Very lite weight, not a lot of cofident in the build compared to my 1998 Pioneer player but then again that one was $300 this one ranges from $99 to $114. You can also get it a little cheaper on the web if you search for it straight up $99 with free shipping. Not sure about the claims of it listing for $599 I seriously doubt that. It has all the connections you would expect on a present day DVD player sans one, NO OPTICAL output. So if that is a must you might want to try another model. Also very shallow foot print 3/4 of the depth of normal equipment so if you stack gear this will have to go at the top of that stack unless you have a dedicated shelf for it. Its only been a week of trial run but so far I really like the picture quality and I am only running component cables so I cannot comment on the HDMI out put. Load times are longer than my 1998 unit and the menus leave a little to be desired compared to my older player, but it still accomplishes the end result you need.Nicely layed out remote only bettered by my other units. I would give this player 3 stars out of 5 only because it is not a high end player just a low level or perhaps even a medium target unit. Overall I am happy with it after figuring out the NTSC change sequence.Read full review
i an in the a/v business and only use pioneer for my own systems. i mainly buy pioneer elite, but find these smaller footprint units fit well in certain applications. the one i purchased here is my second one and i use them both in my home gym. they are small/ reliable and have a y/r/w connection, plus hdmi. all in all for the price this is a good unit.
I bought this item used on EBay, it has all the features I need as far as functionality. HDMI output and upconversion from 480 to 1080. Many options in the Menu, picture adjustments, quick to load discs, very good picture. Good on-screen info available while discs are being played. I never even looked at the manual to get it up and running. Easy to use remote control. What I like especially is, the front USB port in which you can insert a typical USB thumb drive loaded with pictures, music, or in my case, DivX movies. Content downloaded from the Internet can be transferred to USB and played right on the Pioneer, without having to make a disc. Very convenient ! There's even a button on the remote to toggle between USB input and DVD. So far it has played every disc I've thrown at it. The forward/rewind scan functions work very well, picture stops instantly. There have been a few reported software quirks with this model, however, I haven't experienced any as of yet, very satisfied with this purchase.Read full review
Pioneer is known for producing surprisingly good tech-media equipment. For example, their DVD DVR burners are unequaled at the price point. Unequaled. The hope is that quality permeates similar product lines as well as integrates vertically down to inexpensive consumer lines. I purchased the Pioneer DV-410-K DVD Player to augment other more expensive machines that do not offer upscaling, WMV and JPeg. The hope for quality was an illusion. Unfortunately, while the 410-K is an inexpensive answer to some updated capabilities, in my opinion it's picture quality is poor. Without picture quality other attributes mean little. It has trouble reproducing blacks and it understands specular highlights as a 2003 era two-megapixel camera would. Detail washes out as auroras phosphorus intrude. I cannot recommend it.Read full review
This player really is great. It can more or less play everything you can throw at it. I have DVD's purchased all over the world so I needed a player that would play them all. They also play all the divx media I have on cd's, usb flash drive and usb hard drive. You will need to make sure your hard disk/flash drives are formatted for FAT16/32. (not in the manual) The other thing to note is the TV setting will be on Auto out of the box. If using in the US you will need to set it to NTSC buy holding down on the front of the unit while powering on. The LCD will let you know the new settings. Instructions for this were in the manual but not very obvious. All in all, I am very happy with this player and can't wait to get a better TV so I can see it's real potential with 1080p Up Convert via HDMI.Read full review
