The Pioneer Bdp HD1 is is one of the best players available. I have not seen a better image from a blu ray player. Playing Star Wars Episode III, especially the intro and beginning part look fantastic. The machine is solid and very well-built. For the money, you simply cannot do better. This machine was $1500 brand new when it came out and is still the best blu-ray player on the market, in my opinion.

I bought this unit recently, this unit works fine, however like alot of players loads very slow. Unlike the newer Pioneer models this one does not play CD's if that is a concern for you. Picture and audio 1s stunning with the BLU-RAY disk, however DVD playback is not much different than my Krell DVD player, so I will use unit only for Blu Ray's. I have not been able to do a side by side with the newest units for video and audio comparision. I think if this unit was to need replacement I would buy a newer unit instead of this one.
The BDP-HD1 is a clone of the Sony BDP-S1. They share a BD-Burner/Reader that cannot playback CD's. Just replace the EIDE drive with a newer 5x drive and it will provide you with the best picture out there and will read discs quite fast. It will play CD's after the drive is replaced with a generic Pioneer Tri-reader, BD/DVD/CD reader (EIDE). The Pioneer uses the Burr Brown Chip set (pcm 1732), DA converters and Burr Brown Operational amplifiers. Together they provide a Audiophile Quality sound only available on the most expensive. The Pioneer is a real deal.
Ultra sharp resolution creates some incredible 1080p images! Unmatched ability in upscaling regular DVDs to close-to-HD resolutions... Disturbingly very slow response times; takes more than 2 mins to power on and load. Sleek, high-gloss chassis, expensive price does not justify all its faults. Just buy Phillips or Samsung. Even newer generation Pioneer Elite Blu-Rays have same slow response times. Not worth their asking price! -BK
Good machine no problem at all
