For a television that has an HDMI port free, this is an excellent way to add "Smarts" to your television. It's as easy as plugging into your HDMI slot and a power source, either a USB slot on your TV or if it doesn't have a USB, a nearby wall socket. Follow the simple on-screen instructions and you're soon up and running. This device makes a staggering amount of channels available to you to browse and watch.I would definitely say it's well worth the money. Small, very compact and out of sight unlike a lot of similar devices. The only downside to the Roku is just getting used to browsing the stations, which isn't explained in great detail so took a bit of fooling around. I think choosing the stations was actually easier of the Roku website rather than directly on the TV. I bought this unit for my 72 year old mother, if she can handle it as big of problem as she has with technology in general, I think that says a lot for the product overall.Read full review

This was designed by someone who is clueless about how TVs are set up in most homes. Mine are in a cabinet and in a corner. That means I have to move furniture every single time I want to use my ROKU stick. I have ONE HDMI port on my TV. So, I have to disable my AT&T Uverse television service by taking the HDMI cable that supports it out when I put the ROKU stick in. With the help of a flashlight I had to buy for the purpose of finding the port which is not illuminated, I'm constantly plugging and unplugging to use this thing in addition to moving furniture. There should have been an option for those of us without the high end televisions with multiple HDMI ports to have an adapter so that two HDMI devices can use the one port or there should have been a built in switch to facilitate use of our one HDMI port. I wound up buying a Y HDMI adapter on eBay that allows me to plug into it for an HDMI connection that does not necessitate pulling the TV out of the cabinet so that I can get to the back of it. Of course that leaves an unsightly dangly patch of cords hanging from the back side of the TV at all times. I still have to plug and unplug because the Y only allows one device to operate at a time. I pity anyone with a wall mounted television trying to use this stick. Also having to have the USB stick powered from an electrical outlet is insane. I can't be the only one who thought a USB device would be powered by the TV it is sticking into? The current set up means the stick gets hot. Setup was not too difficult, just time consuming as software downloaded. Since I missed a step in the intuitive (NOT) quick set up I had to keep trying until the stick paired with the remote. The only improvement the stick offers over my obsoleted ROKU box is I don't have to use RCA cords to get sound. The sound comes out of the TV without that connection. Even so, I am contemplating putting the old box back in service so the dangly cords will be banished from view and I can switch back and forth between ROKU and TV using only my remotes.Read full review

The new ROKU Stick gets rid of the MHL requirement like the original used, instead utilizes HDMI an option which subsequently lowered the cost . Roku devices lean towards the smaller size, TechHive makess for an easy simple set up. The Stick opens Roku's substantial library of channels and features the Chromecast hasnt duplicted thus far. Streaming also performs well and the Stick's dual-band WiFi passed tests favorably. . The Chromecast is still the cheapest media streamer, but I would advise paying the 10 to 15 dollars more for the Roku.

This is a small device but, it delivers big value. It works well and is easy to setup. In addition, the Tech Support was very good. I have several Chromecasters and they are no where as good as the Roku Streaming Stick. The remote control works very well and you don't need to tie up a device (PC or Smartphone) to control your programs. I don't like not having a volume control on the remote but, that is not a deal breaker. There is no on/off switch so the device will stay on all the time unless you unplug it. It requires some time to boot up so I leave it on. However, I don't feel comfortable about leaving it on all the time. I did not know that there was so much free programming around. This is a great device for cord cutters. You don't need cable or satellite but, you do need a fast internet connection in order to have a great streaming experience. A internet connection of at least 4mbps is required. My connection is 3.5mbps and the streaming experience is good most of the time. I tried it on a 100mbps connection and the streaming experience was superb.Read full review

Quick to set up, and works just like they claim, there are are ton of features but most are also ways to mine your wallet, wirelessly mirroring your other devices, and access to a huge amount of movies and shows are all easily possible. The only negative I'm finding is the included remote kinda sucks, it stops working on a regular basis, a quick fix gets it running again till the next time, but its a pain, from looking online this is a far too common problem, however the Roku app which lets you control it with your smart phone or other device works brilliantly so count on tossing the stock unit into the pile of remotes you no longer use. To sum it up if your already paying for Netflix, Amazon prime or any premium cable service, you have or are considering going wireless and you have a TV with a hdmi outlet The Roku Stick is a BIG upgrade for low $Read full review
