I rather enjoy the dvdr. You can record a show and watch a prerecored show at the same time as well as record and watch a dvd at the same time. Once you have all of your shows recorder you can edit them. Such as cutting out the commercials and adding chapters. You can then copy them onto dvds and just like that you have a whole tv series. The dislikes is that you have to program both the dvdr as well as what you are recording off of. The dvdr doesn't control your channels. It won't change the channels on the cable box or the tv so you must manually put in everything and be on the channel you wat to record on. And you can only watch one thing at a time unless you have a very good spliter. The dvdr is a great machine with it own harddrive. So you won't have to miss any of your favorite shows and you can also watch live tv and fast forward or pause it. I am a very satisfied customer. The dislikes are outweighted by the benefits. Thanks and enjoy!Read full review
This unit replaced another of the exact same model with a faulty hard drive. What I like: 160GB of recording space, easy, intuitive setup, variable skip/replay, multiple inputs What I don't like: no component video in/out, no DVI/HDMI in/out, i.e., you can't record in HD without component video or DVI/HDMI. DVD unit can be fussy. Built-in copy block for content rated as such, reliability, as the old one died after 2 year's service. This unit does not have a grounded AC plug, and the plug is part of the unit. That makes it more difficult to disconnect and more difficult to transport or store. Overall: easy to use, probably reliable but make sure it has plenty of ventilation, needs DVI/HDMI connectivity or component video so it can record and display content in HD. Otherwise, OK as long as you don't mind watching everything in 480p.Read full review
When I received this device it looked great. I hooked it up and went through the setup very easily. It found more HD stations than my set top box does using the same antenna feed. Picture was good. However, when I attempted to record a program to the HDD it gave me an error message. I attempted to pause live TV and got the same error message. I called Philips to report the problem, they said that they would send me another unit and instructions on how to return the failing unit. A couple of days later I got a call from them that they did not have any of these units in stock and offered to buy-back my unit. I faxed them my receipt and they paid for the device to be shipped back to them via Fedex. That has been about 2 weeks ago and I still have not seen a check. I purchased a new Philips DVDR3576H/37 from Ebay and I am very satisfied with it. It works great. Editing a program on the HDD is a bit awkward, but that will get easier the more I do it. Set up to record a program is very similar to how it is done on a VCR. I really like being able to set chapter marks and the variable speed fast-forward and rewind. It made it easy to skip the commercials after I got all of the chapter marks set. Simply press the next button when a commercial started and it went right to the next scene. I have used the pause live TV once. It let me pause a show to take care of something, return to the show where I left it, fast-forward through the commercials and eventually catch up with the show and stop the recording. I think I will really like that feature the more I use it.Read full review
I bought the first unit about a year ago and was very impressed with it, therefore, as I needed another HD recorder, I immediately decided for the same brand and model. The unit is very reliable and easy to use, especially to program and edit. Dislike: Unit does not have a TV Guide and it does not allow you to title a program while scheduling the timer. It has to be titled after recording is finished. Other than that the unit is easy and fast to program and it does everything mentioned in the owner's manual. Highly recommended.
I have two of the Philips DVDR3576h DVD Recorder / HDD Recorders. I wanted another one, but can't find them anywhere. They are not made anymore, but Magnavox has a similar machine available. The 3575h machine is almost identical. Logical on screen setup and programming for TV shows. I also like the DVD player because it up scales normal DVD's to something like true HD. It isn't as good as TV live HD, but I don't like to watch commercials, so I DVR about 95% of what I watch and fast forward through the commercials. These machines connect to the TV by HDMI. I daisy chained the cable to each machine without much degrading in picture quality. I might split it at a later date if it's a problem.
