A classic amongst classic performances. The Monterey Pop festival is where Jimi pulls out all the stops that make him one of the greatest guitarists that has ever lived. Including some of his best songs such as Foxy Lady, Hey Joe and Purple Haze as well as a few covers Wild Thing, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and more. He performs them with total abandon while picking the guitar behind his head, playing with his teeth, on his knees and finally douses his guitar in lighter fluid and sets it afire. Backed by the ever daunting Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding this is one of the greatest performances in all of rock history. It is essential for anyone into Hendrix, guitar playing or just music history in general. The only dislike of this video is the fact that it has yet to be released on DVD, which is of course no fault of the video itself. Of all the shows Hendrix has played this should have been the first and foremost released on DVD. But either way VHS or DVD this is a must.Read full review
